    About Kaikohe

    Cafe 6T6 KaikoheKaikohe has a strategic position in the centre of the province of Northland, providing shopping and service facilities for an extensive farming district. Kaikohe is recognized as being the very heart of the culture of the great Ngapuhi iwi.

    Kaikohe’s current population is around 4,100 people. The population is predominantly Maori and with the highest population of young people (under 14 years) in the far North.

    Kaikohe is home to the Far North District Council head office, the District Court, northern Police centre, Top Energy headquarters and servicing facilities for a number of government agencies.

    Shopping is well catered for with various National Chain retailers, Variety and Furniture Shops, Garden Centres, Hardware, Stationers, Sports Equipment, Computerware and Farm and Machinery Supplies along with Automotive Services and Car Sales.

    As the central pivot of the twin coast Discovery Route, Kaikohe is best described by the symbol of the wheel representing the ‘Hub of the North’. Within a 50 km radius of Kaikohe are attractions such as the Bay of Islands, Waipoua Forest with its giant Kauri trees, the Hokianga Harbor and its sand hills, Puketi and Omahuta Kauri forests, Waiomio limestone caves and much more.
